Abu Dhabi: Dolphin Energy is about to increase the volume of natural gas it pumps from Qatar to Oman and the UAE.

The company operates the UAE's multi-billion-dollar Taweelah-Fujairah gas pipeline and said yesterday it was ready to use it to transport a higher volume of natural gas per day to the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Company's two power stations in Fujairah.

"Dolphin Energy is ready to transport 350 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day to the east coast of the UAE, providing sufficient gas transportation capacity required to fully operate both power stations," the company said in a statement.

It added: "This additional transportation capacity is made possible due to the completion of a 128km, 48-inch pipeline from Dolphin's Taweelah receiving facilities to a hot-tap connection on the existing Al Ain-Fujairah 24-inch pipeline."

The Taweelah-Fujairah pipeline is slated for completion in the third quarter of 2010, a Dolphin Energy official told Gulf News.

"We provide 30 per cent of the UAE's energy requirements and as such continue to be a leading and reliable supplier of clean energy," said Dolphin Energy General Manager Ebrahim Ahmad Al Ansari.

The Dolphin gas pipeline transports two billion standard cubic feet of gas per day. Provision has been made to expand Dolphin's gas production from Qatar to 3.2 bscf per day, subject to future agreement by Qatar authorities.

Dolphin's gas is produced offshore Qatar and is processed onshore at its Ras Laffan gas processing plant. The gas is then compressed and pumped through the export pipeline to Abu Dhabi for distribution to customers.
