London :  Rosneft, Russia's largest refiner, processed 1.1 per cent more crude oil in 2009 than a year earlier after plant expansion projects were completed.

Rosneft processed 364.5 million barrels last year compared with 360.5 million barrels in 2008, the Moscow company said in its 2009 annual report.

The figure includes output from its seven primary facilities across the country and four so-called mini-refineries.

"New units for production of engine fuels to European standards were installed at three refineries," Sergey Bogdanchikov, Rosneft's president, said in the report.

The biggest increases in output came from its Achinsk and Kuibyshev refineries, according to the report. Investment in refining will probably more than double to $1.7 billion (Dh6.24 billion) this year, excluding spending at the Primorsk plant, said finance vice president Peter O'Brien on February 1.

Total's capacity from its seven existing refineries is 391 million barrels a year.
