Dubai: Young and old, private citizens and government workers, locals, expats, determined ones and shaikhs are joining the Dubai Fitness Challenge and reaping the health payoff.

The initiative, launched by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince, is now in its second week — and has seen thousands joining the 30-day drive.

12,000 join first workout of Dubai Fitness Challenge
It kicked off on October 20, and aims to encourage people to engage in physical activities for 30 minutes for an entire month.
"Determined ones" is the term used by His Highness, Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as part of a programme to empower people with special needs, launched in April this year.
The 30-day fitness challenge began with the opening weekend carnival at Safa Park packed with an all-star line-up to inspire residents and visitors alike to start their fitness journey.
Part of the activities for the second second week are being held at Dubai's Kite Beach.

Dubai Police is actively involved in the challenge, as are other government institutions.
