It’s shocking to know that 19-year-old girl was gang raped in Haryana and the main suspect accused is a soldier (“Yet another gang rape, Former CBSE topper targeted in Haryana”, Gulf News September 15, 2018). It’s very sad that the victim is former topper in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board exam. The number of rape cases has increased in India in recent years and most of the State governments seems to be silent spectators. Some politicians and political parties talk highly about woman’s protection and these types of incidents happen again and again and it is a shame for all.

Parents should teach their sons how to behave in public. Woman are molested in buses, work places and children are abused in their own homes. Statistics shows that even in states where literacy is a 100 per cent, many rape cases are reported daily and most poof them are not reported by the Police. There are a lot of laws to protect human rights but these laws have not helped for the protection of woman and children. The perpetrators of these crimes should be give strict punishment. The lengthy procedure and justice system we have in India, does not give verdicts on time and justice delayed is justice denied. The public has no fear of the law, which is why these crimes against women keep happening. The Chief Minister should take urgent steps to arrest all the culprits.
