Age is just a number when it comes to following your passion. A 57-year-old woman, Lynne Cole from Australia, is hitting the headlines for her love of electronic dance music (EDM), and so far, she has attended over 50 music festivals.

Mother of three children and now a grandmother, Cole loves raving and attends as many electronic dance music festivals as she can, and her favourite genre is Hardstyle.

Hardstyle is an electronic dance genre that originated in the late 1990s in the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy. Hardstyle mixes influences from techno, new beat and hardcore. Early Hardstyle was typically written at 140 BPM (beats per minute). However, the modern Hardstyle is faster, producing around 150 BPM.

A video of Cole’s has gone viral on social media, showing her enjoying and grooving to the music.

According to the local news reports, she goes to clubs and music festivals independently and has no problem going to EDM raves, surrounded by people less than half her age.

In addition, she regularly attends smaller events.

Talking to the media, she said that she manages to enjoy the parties and she's just there for the music and to groove.

Cole said: "My fun is pure…. You don't need any of that to have fun. When you enter a festival, the music is loud. Everyone is just as excited as you are to be there. We are all there for one reason, to connect to the DJs and their music, regardless of age. The energy and the vibe are so amazing.

“I greet old friends I made at past festivals and always meet new ones. I love people."

She was always into electronic music, but after having her first child at 21, she could not make the most of raving back then.

She added: "I liked Hardstyle music back when it was called house music or electronic music. Then I had a child in 1986 when I was 21 years old. I had to grow up, and the music got lost for many years."

When Lynn's three children were old enough to attend festivals, she joined them at a rave, and she hasn't looked back since.

She said: "In 2015, I went to an official rave with my twins instead of some underground car park like back in the day. The music was a little different, and I fell in love with the music again, and I've been to almost all the festivals."

But now she finds it hard to find people of her age to accompany her.

She added: "I go to all festivals by myself. I will wait a long time for someone my age to join me. My children don't go to raves anymore, so I go alone. My children are okay with it."

Cole, who used to work as a carer for disabled adults, is now retired, has no intentions of slowing down, and plans to continue raving forever. Recently, she bought a camper van to travel across Australia and join music festivals. She also plans to travel to Europe to attend a Hardstyle festival in 2024.

Social media is ‘raving’ about the video, which managed to garner over 1.2 million views.

TikTok user @DJ Rolla commented on the post: " I think grandma ravers should automatically get VIP passes and get to go on stage."

Another user, @insominiacrecs wrote: "We wanna be you when we grow up!"

“Notice how she choose to be in the moment rather than pull the cell phone out and record it,” said @cindy cordero, a TikTok user.
