Australians risk losing adopted Indian children

Last updated:

Sydney: Australian couples risk having to give up adopted Indian children whom authorities fear were stolen, Canberra officials said on Monday.

The adoptive parents of up to 30 Indian children risked having adoptions revoked, said a spokesman for Attorney General Robert Mclelland.

Indian police are investigating the Chennai-based Malaysian Social Services, which acted as intermediary in the adoptions.

Police suspect the company paid people to steal children, who were then put up for adoption.
