Perth: A Western Australian cab driver is about to rack up the miles on his new taxi after winning a state competition to ferry passengers to the top 11 tourist sites in Australia's largest state.

Doug Slater won an online poll to find the state's favorite cabbie in a contest by the tourism board.

His prize? A nine-week journey of 4,000 miles (6,500 kilometers) with 22 passengers and 11 stops. Oh, and 25,000 Australian dollars (US$23,000) for his trouble.

The prize was announced Friday.

An international competition is under way to choose passengers "The Extraordinary Taxi Ride," part of an AU$5.6 million state tourism campaign.
