Washington: A 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck Papua New Guinea on Tuesday at a depth of 127 kilometres, the US Geological Survey said.

The quake, which was felt in the capital Port Moresby, struck 33 kilometres from the town of Bulolo at 1.19am UAE time according to the agency.

Because of the depth of the epicentre, there is no tsunami threat, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said.
