Dubai: The family home of a Syrian television presenter working for Qatar's Al Jazeera network was set ablaze after she refused to resign from the channel, media reports said.

According to the reports, the family of Rola Ebrahim was besieged by thugs who put pressure on the family members to distance themselves from the presenter for working for a channel that they called biased against Syria in its coverage of events there.

They later set the house on fire.

Rola has been under pressure to resign from the channel amid calls to strip her of Syrian nationality, reports said. She has earlier worked for Syria Radio and Television, Russia Today and Kuwait's Al Rai TV, before moving to Al Jazeera.
