Egypt on alert over Gaza border

Al Arish: One thousand Egyptian troops have gone on a state of alert in the town of Rafah after receiving intelligence that Hamas was preparing to breach the border.

Egypt's Foreign Ministry warned Palestinians in Gaza that any attempts to ''infringe upon the Egyptian borders will be met with a serious and firm position.''

An Egyptian security official said Hamas militants were getting ready to bulldoze the rebuilt border and blow up the main crossing gate with mines.
