Baghdad: Iraqi police and morgue officials said on Saturday that the death toll in a car bombing at an open-air market in a Shiite town northeast of Baghdad has risen to 30.

Friday's bomb struck the town of Khalis, a Shiite enclave north of Baghdad in the largely Sunni province of Diyala.

Most of those killed were sitting in a cafe in the centre of the market. About 80 people were also wounded in the attack.

All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak to the media.
