Manama: A police spokesman in the Red Sea Saudi city of Jeddah has denied reports that a three-year-old girl had been raped.
“Two months ago, the police in Jeddah were informed by a private hospital that they had received a three-year-old girl from the Far East,” Nawaf Bin Nasser Al Bouq said. “There were five people, three men and two women of the same nationality, who wanted [the hospital] to treat her for her high fever. She was semi-conscious and bleeding in a sensitive area of her body. There were also bruises and evidence of violence [on her],” he said, quoted by Okaz Al Youm.
The people accompanying the victim told the hospital staff that they were not her relatives and that she was staying with them after her father and mother left Saudi Arabia, the spokesman said.
“The hospital immediately called the police who requested a diagnosis of the girl’s condition. The report said that she had not been raped or sexually assaulted. However, it said that she suffered from lack of hygiene and [was victim to] physical aggression that required an investigation,” Al Bouq said.
The five people were arrested and the prosecution launched an investigation, he said.
Reports in Saudi Arabia said that the girl and the five people arrested were from Indonesia. However, the police did not mention their nationality.
