Manama: Nokia has alerted its customers in Qatar against "fake SMS and e-mail"issued on behalf of the mobile phone manufacturer and intended at "extorting money".
Nokia's Qatar partner, the Consolidated Gulf Company (CGC), said such messages were being sent mostly in the name of Nokia UK, promising attractive prizes, including cash to customers.
"People are advised to ignore such SMS or e-mail, which seemed to be intended at extorting money," the CGC said, quoted by Qatari newspaper Gulf Times.
"CGC Careline has been alerted by customers that they had received either text or e-mail messages from Nokia UK, promising attractive prizes including cash to winning mobile numbers," said Syed Ayaz, CGC marketing and business development manager.
"We once again wish to inform our customers that such messages are fake and advise them not to respond to fraudulent acts. All CGC Nokia promotions, products and services in Qatar are clearly communicated through the official channels and the media," he said.
Gulf mobile providers have often issued warnings against scam mails and lucrative promises.
