Muscat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday visited a 125-year-old Shiva Temple in Muscat, one of the oldest in the region, and offered prayers.

The temple is located in the Matrah area in Muscat.

It was constructed 125 years ago by the merchant community from Gujarat and was subsequently renovated in 1999.

The temple has three deities; more than 15,000 devotees visit the temple on special occasions. The prime minister also posed for group photos with the temple administration officials and the Indian community members. To pay homage to Modi, well-known Indian artist in Oman, Aparna Shere, painted Modi on a peepal leaf found near the temple, she told Gulf News.

Modi concluded his two-day official tour by visiting the iconic Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the biggest mosque in Oman.
