Dubai: Two people were killed after light aircraft plummeted onto a highway in northern Italy’s Brescia province on Tuesday, Italy’s national broadcaster RAI, reported.

The crash erupted into a fireball that obliterated the plane and left no survivors aboard.

The crash, which occurred in broad daylight, sent plumes of black smoke into the sky and scattered debris across the roadway. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but the blaze engulfed the wreckage before any rescue could be attempted.

The crash also led to injuring two motorists who were driving through the area at the time of the explosion. They were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officials have not yet released the number or identities of those on board. An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.

The crash site erupted in flames following the impact, prompting the immediate suspension of traffic in both directions on the highway. Multiple fire engines rushed to the scene, quickly extinguishing the blaze and securing the area.
