Fire breaks out at 12-storey Manchester building

Manchester: Firefighters were battling a large fire that broke out at a 12-storey residential building in Manchester's Northern Quarter.

At least one person has been taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, according to the Manchester fire service.

Emergency services battling the blaze on Joiner Street warned the public to avoid the area as at least 10 fire engines at the scene.

Onlookers said the fire appeared to be have been extinguished, but dramatic footage of the blaze were posted on social media.

It was not immediately clear what caused the blaze.
