Criticism rises as BBC plans Suffolk murder drama

Last updated:

London: The BBC is under pressure to scrap a drama about the Suffolk murders, following protests from some of the victims' families.

Five Daughters, a three-part serial about the killing of five Ipswich prostitutes in 2006, will be broadcast on BBC1 next year.

However, the corporation was criticised last night after it emerged that some of the murdered women's relatives have not been told about the programme.

There were also concerns that the drama will be shown only three-and-a-half years after the killings, with the emotions of many involved "still raw".

Brian Clennell, whose daughter Paula was one of the victims, said: "I have never been asked [by the BBC] about anything. I would say to the BBC they should have a very good think about doing this because it will hurt a ... a lot of people. "Nobody knows what is the true story or the true circumstances. Nobody knows what happened. For [goodness] sake, who is going to act in it?

"Who is going to step into Paula's shoes and know how she was feeling?"
