Former congresswoman and journalist Sol Aragones has been elected governor of Laguna, defeating two incumbent representatives and the sitting vice governor in a highly competitive race.

Aragones secured 635,570 votes, according to the Provincial Board of Canvassers, which officially proclaimed her the winner. This marks her second attempt at the province’s top post, after losing in 2022.

Second District Rep. Ruth Hernandez, wife of outgoing Governor Ramil Hernandez, came in second with 548,286 votes. Santa Rosa Rep. Dan Fernandez placed third with 285,373, while Vice Governor Karen Agapay finished fourth with 114,758.

Hernandez congratulated Aragones and thanked her supporters in a Facebook post.

Fernandez also conceded, posting a message of gratitude and reaffirming his commitment to public service despite his loss.

“Sa lahat ng mga nagtiwala, sumuporta, at patuloy na naninindigan kasama ko, taos-puso akong nagpapasalamat. Hindi man natin nakamit ang tagumpay sa eleksyon na ito, mananatiling buo ang aking paninindigan at pagmamahal para sa ating lalawigan,” Fernandez posted on Facebook.

(To all those who trusted, supported, and continued to stand with me, I am sincerely grateful. Even though we did not achieve victory in this election, my commitment and love for our province will remain intact.)

Aragones vowed to prioritize improving Laguna’s healthcare system—one of the central issues of her campaign. She also committed to expanding scholarship programs and boosting tourism to drive local job creation.

Aragones previously served as Laguna’s Third District representative from 2013 to 2016.
