Manila: A 27-year-old Filipina, Marvil Facturan-Kocjančič, was allegedly killed by her Slovenian husband, Mitja Kocjančič, on December 29, 2024, while holidaying in the scenic resort town of Bled, Slovenia.

The incident occurred shortly after her arrival in the country to reunite with her spouse for the holidays.

The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) has condemned the brutal murder, expressing deep sorrow and solidarity with the victim's family. "We, at the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, condole with the family of slain marriage migrant Marvil Facturan-Kocjančič. We also stand against domestic violence and join in the pursuit of justice for our kababayan," the CFO stated on social media.

The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed that arrangements are being made to repatriate the victim's remains.

Slovenian authorities have launched an investigation, revealing that the suspect, who has a history of mental health concerns, has been arrested and placed in a psychiatric facility.

The tragedy has shaken the local Slovenian community and Filipinos worldwide, with Filipino groups in Germany and Slovenia calling for justice and offering their condolences to Marvil's grieving family.

The CFO has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Filipino emigrants and has urged those experiencing domestic abuse to seek help immediately.

As a government organisation, the CFO advocates for the rights of emigrants, including marriage migrants and other overseas Filipino communities.
