Escapee to be charged with aiding militants
Sulu: Provincial Governor Sakur Tan asked the police to file criminal charges against a man who was suspected of supplying bomb-making materials to militants.
Hadji Nahrin Abud Akmad escaped arrest after policemen and soldiers seized from his house in Jolo more than 700kg of banned ammonium nitrate, 8,000 pieces of blasting caps, a pistol and 13 rolls of time fuse, and 80,000 (Dh7,272) during a raid on Thursday, Senior Superintendent Julasirim Kasim, the Sulu provincial police chief said in a belated report.
"Because of Akmad's escape, Sulu Governor Sakur Tan has ordered us to immediately file charges against him," said Kasim.
The military has taken custody of all the things that were seized from Akmad's house, said Kasim, adding the Philippine National Police (PNP) is now asking for the custody for the material for filing of charges against Akmad.
