Manila: Three bodies have been recovered as search-and-rescue teams continue to comb the waters of Manila Bay for at least 24 people missing after a passenger ferry collided with a fishing boat.

Coast guard spokesman Armand Balilo said Thursday that 46 passengers and crew of the wooden-hulled ferry MV Catalyn B were plucked from the water and brought to the coast guard's Manila headquarter. He said the coast guard has alerted all vessels in the area to look for those missing.

Balilo said an ocean tanker found the three bodies, including that of a woman and two men, floating near the collision site. The dead were transferred to a government tugboat and brought to the coast guard headquarters.

Among the rescued, a woman passenger was seen being carried on a stretcher. Others were led to a clinic for a medical examination.
