In the infamous case of Qandeel Baloch’s honour killing, police in Pakistan apprehended Mohammad Arif, her brother, on Saturday and he is going to be presented in court on Tuesday, October 8.
Baloch was strangled to death in 2016, ever since, Arif had been declared as an absconder by Pakistani officials.
Her brother Mohammad Waseem was given life imprisonment in the murder case, while six other suspects including Qandeel Baloch's another brother Aslam Shaheen, her cousin Haq Nawaz and cleric Abdul Qavi were acquitted. They were named in the case lodged by Baloch's parents.
Police from the city of Multan caught Arif with the help of Interpol, according to officials, Dawn News reported.
Station house officer (SHO) Mahar Bashir Hiraj told Dawn News that Arif has been handed over to Muzaffarabad police station in Multan.
Brothers involved
A day after the murder, Waseem had admitted before the police that he had killed Qandeel because she “brought dishonour to the Baloch name”.
Baloch was known to be a social media personality in Pakistan and according to the conservative society’s standards, her posts were deemed controversial.
Baloch’s real name is Fouzia Azeem but she was better known as Qandeel Baloch online.
Waseem had also said that his sister had a "bad character" being a social media model and that he had "no guilt over killing her".
Furthermore, Waseem had told the court his brother Mohammad Arif, who was in Saudi Arabia at the time, had asked him to kill her as he felt ashamed due to her actions.
Arif also allegedly instructed Waseem to flee to Saudi Arabia after killing Baloch, according to Dawn News.
Waseem is set to serve out his sentence in Multan's Central Jail. Arif has yet to be charged by a court for his alleged involvement in the case.
