Islamabad: Pakistan reported on Friday less than 2,000 cases and 83 deaths in the past 24 hours.

According to the National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC), after 52,859 tests in one day, the country’s single-day cases of COVID-19 were 1,893 showing a 3.58 per cent positivity rate.

This is the lowest positivity rate in a period of three months. On February 28, 2021 Pakistan had reported 3.02 per cent positivity rate.

The NCOC data also reveals that active cases of COVID-19 are on the decline.

Pakistan’s total number of cases after these latest additions climbed to 928,588 while the death toll stood at 21,105.

Private sector to set up camp vaccination facility

Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiative Asad Umar after inaugurating a vaccination facility at a shopping mall announced to raise the number of vaccination centres in the country from the existing 1,700 to 4,000, through introducing the concept of camp vaccination facility.

“We are approaching from next week the non-government organisations, philanthropists, chambers of commerce, rural support networks and other charity organisations to establish vaccination facilities to facilitate the maximum number of people,” said Asad Umar.

The countrywide vaccination drive is going at full pace and according to the government figures, 7.953 million doses have been administered so far.

In the last 24 hours alone, 304,862 doses were administered, the NCOC portal shows.

Islamabad commended

The minister commended Islamabad’s residents and the district health team for promptly responding to the call for vaccination.

“Islamabad is at the top in terms of vaccination as well as registration and we want other cities to follow Islamabad’s example so that herd immunity would be achieved at the earliest,” said Asad Umar.

The federal capital is ahead of all other cities as the number of people going for registration and vaccination in proportion with the population of the city is the highest in the country, the minister said.
