Pakistan president discharged from Dubai hospital on Wednesday evening

Dubai: Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has been discharged from hospital on Wednesday evening, but will continue to stay in Dubai for a few more days until his doctors allow him to travel back home, Gulf News has learnt.

"All tests are clear and the doctors discharged the president from hospital to take rest at home and continue the heart medication," his spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said on Wednesday.

A close aide also told Gulf News that Zardari has no immediate plans to go to London for further treatment and would instead spend time with his children in Dubai.

"He is recovering fast and the doctors have advised him complete rest," Babar said, adding that Zardari would remain at his house in Dubai. His close aides have started arriving in Dubai to consult with him.

A senior Pakistan Peoples Party leader said it was highly likely that Zardari would return home before the end of the month to deliver an "important" address at a public meeting to mark the death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto.

The 56-year-old Zardari flew to Dubai on December 6 after falling ill in the midst of a scandal over alleged attempts by a close aide to seek US help to limit the power of Pakistan's military.
