Pakistan Field Marshal Asim Munir honoured with Azerbaijan’s war medal

Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir has been conferred Azerbaijan’s prestigious Patriotic War Medal for “Services in the Field of Military Cooperation”, it was announced on Wednesday.

According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Colonel General Karim Valiyev, First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army, met Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Munir at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

The meeting encompassed discussions on matters of mutual interest, with particular focus on the prevailing global and regional security landscape.

“Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s deep fraternal bonds with Azerbaijan and reiterated the resolve to further consolidate bilateral relations. He also congratulated the visiting dignitary on the successful conclusion of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the visiting delegation extended best wishes for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.

While conferring the medal, Colonel General Valiyev commended Pakistan’s “unwavering efforts in combating terrorism and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s determination to enhance collaboration in defence and security”. He also conveyed gratitude for Pakistan’s warm hospitality and steadfast support for Azerbaijan.

Last week, Munir was on an official visit to the US, where he has engaged in a series of high-level meetings with senior US military and political leaders.

This was his second visit to the US in recent months, following a five-day trip in June during which he became the first serving Pakistani army chief to hold a face-to-face meeting with sitting U.S. President Donald Trump over a luncheon at the White House.

Addressing a gathering of the Pakistani diaspora in Tampa, Florida, the army chief hailed overseas Pakistanis as a “source of pride and dignity” and emphatically rejected the notion of a “brain drain,” instead calling it a “brain gain.” He urged expatriates to remain confident in Pakistan’s future and actively contribute by attracting investment to the homeland.
