No casualties reported as 3.6 magnitude tremor strikes Quaidabad area
Tremors were felt across parts of Karachi late Sunday night after a mild earthquake struck the city. According to the National Seismological Centre, the quake measured 3.6 on the Richter scale and was centred near the Quaidabad area.
The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres, making the tremors more noticeable despite the moderate magnitude. The Seismological Centre confirmed that the epicentre was located in Quaidabad, a densely populated neighbourhood in the southern part of the city.
Residents in affected areas reported feeling light shaking, with some rushing out of buildings in concern. However, no casualties or property damage have been reported so far.
This marks the second consecutive day that Karachi has experienced seismic activity. Experts have advised residents to stay calm but alert, especially in multi-storey buildings and older structures.
The tremor in Karachi follows a series of earthquakes recorded in other parts of the country over the weekend. Earlier, a 4.4-magnitude quake struck Zhob in Balochistan, and a 4.7-magnitude tremor was recorded in Swat. While those quakes were stronger in magnitude, their epicentres were deeper and more distant from major urban centres.
Authorities in Karachi continue to monitor the situation and have urged citizens to follow safety protocols in the event of aftershocks.
