Magnitude 7.0 quake hits off Indonesia, no tsunami warning

Jakarta: An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.0 struck in the sea 150 km (90 miles) northwest of Ternate, Moluccas, Indonesia at 1433 GMT on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

It put the quake at a depth of 65 km.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said in its bulletin for the quake that no tsunami warning was in effect.

The Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency put the magnitude at 6.7 and said it was unlikely to trigger a tsunami.
