Patna: A young man in Bihar was killed and his body chopped into seven pieces for allegedly falling in love, in the latest incident of honour killing. All the accused are absconding.

Reports quoting police and family members said Abhishek Kumar, a resident of Bengwahi village under Raniganj police station in Araria district, had fallen in love with a local woman while attending coaching classes.

Subsequently, they met at regular intervals. News of the affair reached the girl’s family and they married her off two months ago. However, Kumar and the woman continued to meet, angering the family.

Last week, he left his home to meet the woman at her village but went missing. Subsequently, his family members began searching for him but failed to locate the youth. A missing person case was registered with the local police.

On Saturday, villagers complained of a foul smell from a paddy field and later found body parts thrown in various locations. They informed the police, who recovered the body parts and sent them for a post mortem. Police said his body was chopped into seven parts with a sharp-edged weapon.

Local district superintendent of police Dhurat Sayli Savlaram said the body was being sent for DNA testing. The family members identified the youth by his clothes and belt, and said he was killed for falling in love.

“He had fallen in love with the girl while attending classes but we never imagined he would be killed with such cruelty,” the youth’s mother Rambha Devi told the media on Sunday.
