Overcome with grief, the father hanged himself from the same tree as his son
In a tragic incident in Maharashtra's Nanded district, a 16-year-old class 10 student took his own life after his father, burdened by financial constraints, refused to buy him a smartphone.
The boy's suicide prompted his father, unable to cope with the loss, to hang himself from the same tree where his son was found.
According to a report from The Times of India, the teenager had been staying in a hostel with his two brothers in Udgir, Latur district. The boy had frequently asked his father for a smartphone for academic purposes, but due to financial burdens from loans for the farm and a vehicle, his father was unable to grant the request.
The boy asked for the phone again the evening before the tragedy, but his father explained he couldn’t afford it. Upset, the boy left home, and his parents, thinking he had gone to the farm to sleep, started searching for him when he didn’t return the next morning.
His father was the first to reach the farm, where he found his son hanging from a tree. In shock, he removed the body and hanged himself with the same rope. The suicides were discovered when other family members arrived at the farm, and both were later declared dead at the hospital.
Police are investigating the incident and have registered a case of accidental death while verifying further details. This tragedy highlights the severe impact of financial strain and emotional distress, prompting a deeper probe into the double suicide.
