Superstar Mammootty is the best actor in Malayalam, while Kavya Madhavan and Geethu Mohandas share the best actress award, according to the Kerala State Film Awards for 2004 announced here yesterday.

Mammootty won the award for his performance in Kazcha directed by debutant director Blezzy, who also won the best debutant director award.

Kavya Madhavan qualified for the best actress award for her role in Perumazhakalam, while Geethu Mohandas got it for her performance in Akale and Oridam.

Announcing the awards, Cultural Affairs Minister A.P. Anil Kumar and jury chairman Sreekumaran Thampy told mediapersons that Tom Geroge's Akale bagged six awards for 2004.

It won awards for best feature film, director, actress, cinematographer, art director and supporting actress.

Perumazhakkalam, directed by Kamal bagged five awards, including best story writer, best lyricist and best music director. Sanusha for Kazcha and Soumyam and Yash for Kazcha shared the best child artiste awards.

The awards would be distributed soon at the convenience of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
