Kokilaben Ambani, wife of the late Reliance Industries founder Dhirubhai Ambani and mother of industrialists Mukesh and Anil Ambani, was admitted to HN Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai late Thursday night after being airlifted in an emergency, Indian media reported.

According to hospital sources, the 91-year-old matriarch of the Ambani family was hospitalised due to age-related ailments and is under the care of senior doctors.

Soon after her admission, Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani was seen arriving at Mumbai’s Kalina airport before heading directly to the hospital.

The family has not yet issued an official statement on her condition.

Born on February 24, 1934, in Jamnagar, Gujarat, Kokilaben married Dhirubhai Ambani in 1955 and has since been at the centre of one of India’s most influential business families. She has four children — Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries; Anil Ambani, chairman of Reliance ADA Group; Nina Kothari; and Dipti Salgaocar.

Following Dhirubhai Ambani’s death in 2002, Kokilaben played a key role in mediating between her sons during a high-profile division of the Reliance empire, helping to ease tensions and preserve family harmony.

Kokilaben currently resides with her elder son Mukesh Ambani and his family at Antilia, their Mumbai residence.
