Dubai: A teenage girl was gang-raped in front of her father by six young men in a village in Bihar’s Kishanganj district.

Social media users were shocked as they shared the news reports.

According to an Indo-Asian News Service (IANS) report, police officials confirmed that the 19-year-old victim lodged a formal complaint on Wednesday that six young men from her village under Kodhowadi police station knocked at her door late on Tuesday night asking for water to drink, but forcibly entered her home and dragged her outside.

Her complaint stated that they took her to a deserted field near her house and gang-raped her in front of her father, who was taken a hostage and tied to a tree.

She also informed the police that the accused threatened her and father not to approach the police.

A case has been lodged against all the named accused.

According to Kishanganj Superintendent of Police Kumar Ashish, the accused are absconding and no arrest has been made so far.

He added: “I am personally monitoring the case and they will be arrested soon.”

The SP further said he had gone to the village and met the victim and her father, besides enquiring about the incident with the villagers. And, that the victim had been sent for medical examination at Kishanganj Sadar hospital.

Media reports say that adjoining police stations have also directed to arrest the six accused who are at large.

According to a 2018 international opinion survey, published by the Thomson Reuters Foundation, India was ranked as the most dangerous country in the world to be a woman. The survey of 550 experts on women’s issues found India to be the most dangerous nation for sexual violence against women, as well as human trafficking for domestic work, forced labour, forced marriage and sexual slavery, among other reasons.
