Hyderabad: Prominent Telugu journalist and news anchor Swetcha Votarkar was found dead at her residence in Hyderabad on Friday night in an apparent suicide, according to media reports.

The 40-year-old was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan, police said on Saturday. A case has been registered following a complaint filed by her father, who alleged that a specific individual was responsible for his daughter's death. Authorities are currently investigating the matter.

Expressing grief, BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao took to X (formerly Twitter) to offer his condolences. “Deeply saddened to hear about the unfortunate demise of Swetcha Votarkar, a fierce journalist, writer and a dedicated Telanganite. I am at a loss for words,” he wrote.

He also urged people struggling with mental health issues to seek help. “To everyone reading this — if you ever feel that life is tough, please don't hesitate to reach out to a professional. Life is meant to be lived and there is always support available,” Rama Rao added.

Swetcha was known for her bold journalism and strong opinions on socio-political issues in Telangana.
