Hyderabad: For a Grade 10 student, friendship that started on Facebook ended up on a grisly note as her battered body was found by police at a desolate place.
Police Mahbubnagar district in the South Indian state of Telangana said the body of Harshini, 15, at Shankaraipalli near Jadcherla town on Thursday, a day after she had gone missing.
The police were looking for 27-year-old Naveen Reddy, suspected to be responsible for her death. Police officials probing the case suspected that Naveen had attacked her sexually when she went to meet him at an isolated place. Police suspect the girl received head injuries when she fell down in attempt to escape or she was hit by a stone by her tormentor.
Harshini reportedly came in contact with Naveen Reddy over Facebook and she met him couple of times in person after exchanging mobile number with him.
Harshini’s body was shifted to a local hospital for post mortem. The police have taken the suspect into custody and questioning him.
