Thiruvananthapuram: In two horrific domestic crimes in Kerala over two days, a mother killed her 6-year-old son apparently in a ‘sacrifice to God’ and a man murdered his mother allegedly because of her bitter treatment of his wife.

Kerala woke up this morning to the ghastly news from Poolakkad near Palakkad where a woman identified as Shahida, wife of Sulaiman, slit the throat of the youngest of her three children in the early hours of Sunday.

Grisly crime at night

Shahida reportedly tied up the legs of her 6-year-old son, carried him to the washroom and slit his neck. She contacted neighbours to get the phone number of the police station and informed the police herself.

“I have sacrificed him to God,” Shahida reportedly told police.

The crime is believed to have been committed around 4am. The deceased was identified as Adil, the youngest of the couple’s three sons.

Sulaiman and the two couple’s two elder sons were apparently asleep at the time of the crime. Shahida is pregnant with her fourth child.

Early reports said Sulaiman works as a taxi driver and Shahida had worked for a while as a teacher.

For wife’s sake

On Saturday, local media had carried the news of a man murdering his mother apparently because she was constantly bickering with his wife. He then committed suicide.

Vipin Nair, 33 who was working as a driver-cum-salesman in a hardware store, was found hanging, after strangled his mother Mohanakumari, 63, to death. Mohanakumari’s husband Vasudevan Nair had died a few years ago.

Local media reports said police had found a suicide note by Nair which said there was no peace at home owing to the constant bickering between Mohanakumari and her daughter-in-law.

At the time of the deaths, Nair’s wife Maya and their three-year-old daughter were away at Maya’s house.
