Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's wife convicted of tax fraud

Bangkok: The wife of former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has been sentenced to three years in jail after being found guilty of tax fraud.

The case against Pojaman Shinawatra was the first in a series of cases being brought against the family.

As part of the same trial, her brother Bannapot Damapong, and her secretary were also convicted of tax evasion relating to a share transfer in 1997.

He was sentenced to three years in prison while the secretary was given two years.

All three have been released on bail and have vowed to appeal.
