Las Vegas: The suspect who died in a Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump Las Vegas hotel on Wednesday was identified as Matthew Alan Livelsberger, according to people familiar with the matter.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is treating the case as a possible terrorist attack, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the probe is private. Livelsberger is a US Army special forces operations sergeant on active duty, CNN reported, citing unidentified US officials.

Livelsberger rented the Cybertruck on Turo, the vehicle-rental app also used by Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the suspect in a separate attack in New Orleans on the same day that left 15 dead. Authorities are investigating whether the two incidents were related. Denver7, an ABC television station, reported that Jabbar and Livelsberger served at the same military base.

In a statement, Turo said it was working with law enforcement officials on the investigation of both incidents.

“We do not believe that either renter involved in the Las Vegas and New Orleans attacks had a criminal background that would have identified them as a security threat,” a Turo spokesperson said.
