Magnitude 6.9 earthquake strikes near Panama

Quake follows another tremor of 6.3 magnitude in same area, no tsunami expected

An earthquake of magnitude 6.9 struck near Panama on Wednesday, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said.

The quake was at a depth of 2 km, according to EMSC, and struck about 321 km southeast of San Jose in Costa Rica.

The US National Tsunami Warning Center said no tsunami was expected.

Another trembler with a magnitude of 6.3 and a depth of 22 km also struck near Panama, EMSC said.
