Deadly US snowstorm causes accidents

Last updated:

Missouri: At least two people were killed and dozens of others injured in a snowstorm that hit several parts of the United States.

At least two people killed in traffic pileups in Texas and Kansas, while up to 40 vehicles were involved in car crashes on Interstate 29 in western Missouri.

Police closed about 100 miles of I-29 to the Iowa state line as a safety measure. Authorities believe the pileup was caused by blowing snow and zero visibility.

The storm also blew heavy snow across Oklahoma and parts of Nebraska and Iowa, where low visibility forced the closure of some highways.

At Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, at least 100 flights were cancelled.

The storm also affected flights at airports in the Midwest. The delays rippled across the country, delaying flights in the New York region.
