Opposition party accuses military for plotting to kill Tsvangirai

Nairobi: Zimbabwe's opposition party on Monday accused the government's military of plotting to assassinate leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

Tsvangirai postponed his return to Zimbabwe on Saturday following warnings from his party that a plot to assassinate him had been discovered.

Secretary General of for the opposition Movement for Democratic Change, Tendai Biti said they were aware that 18 snipers placed by the ruling government ready to attack the opposition leader.

Tsvangirai, who has spent over a month away from Zimbabwe, is due to contest an election run-off with President Robert Mugabe on June 27. He is believed to arrive soon to begin campaigning for the new contest.
