Abu Dhabi: Money keeps coming in for the Terry Fox Fund for Cancer Research project, taking the total to Dh750,000.

The amount of money raised during this year's 13th Annual Terry Fox Run (TFR) in Abu Dhabi, held on February 8th 2008, has been the highest ever, said Fareed Dabaghi, Chairman of the Terry Fox Committee.

Among 39 countries, Dubai and Abu Dhabi stand among the top 10 in revenue by run site with Dubai in third place, raising Dh569,430 and Abu Dhabi in sixth place raising Dh467,613.

These figures do not include money raised from the corporate donations, which in Abu Dhabi takes the total to Dh750,000. The UAE stands in third place with the top 10 revenue by country, with nearly Dh1.4 million.

Awards

The run attracted over 10,000 participants and included three challenges: a bank challenge a business/corporate challenge and a hotel challenge. Awards and trophies were presented to the most active participants at a conference held yesterday in the Sheraton Hotel.

More than seven banks participated in this year's banking challenge, coordinated by the Bank of Fujairah and the National Bank of Abu Dhabi. Eleven hotels participated in the hotel challenge, coordinated by the Sheraton Resort and Towers Abu Dhabi.

An award for the most money donated was won by the Intercontinental Hotel Abu Dhabi and The Bank of Fujairah and its employees for the third consecutive year.

The award for the hotel and bank with the most participants on the run day was won by Shangri-La and the National Bank of Abu Dhabi.

According to TFR statistics presented by the committee, Dh102.8 million has been raised worldwide and Dh11.5 million has been raised among 39 countries with 4,947 run sites and 2,497,599 participants.
