Sharjah: The seven passengers who were injured when their school bus overturned on Tuesday are recovering in hospital, an Al Dhaid Hospital official told Gulf News on Wednesday. The bus driver was killed on the spot.

The bus flipped over on Maliha Road after the Pakistani driver lost control due to speeding and crashed into a lamp-post.

Six Emirati pupils from the technical secondary school in Ajman and a bus supervisor were on board. The accident happened at around 4pm when the pupils were being taken home at the end of the school day. The injured were aged between 13 and 20 years old. Police said the pupils suffered moderate injuries and were taken to Al Dhaid Hospital. The bus supervisor from the Comoros Islands needed an X-ray. The driver’s body was moved to the hospital morgue.

One of the pupils has been transferred to Rashid Hospital as her condition has worsened. The others remain in Al Dhaid Hospital.

Sharjah Police are investigating the case. The public are reminded to abide by traffic safety regulations for their own and other people’s safety. Police have especially urged school bus drivers to be extra careful while pupils are on board the buses.
