Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed a key section of the parallel roads project, with the opening of Qarn Al Sabkha road on Friday, linking two major freeways of Dubai.
Qarn Al Sabkha road links Shaikh Zayed Road with Shaikh Mohammad bin Zayed Road at the Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) junction (Interchange 5.5) near Al Houdh roundabout.
The opening, will be followed later by the opening of the remaining bridges at the intersection of Al Saada road with Qarn Al Sabkha road.
“The opening of Qarn Al Sabkha road will provide smooth traffic flow to JLT, Jumeirah Island and Jumeirah Park by linking them with Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road. Moreover, the traffic is also set to flow smoothly from Shaikh Zayed Road towards these communities, thanks to a tunnel opened last March. The RTA will also open some bridges at the intersection of Al Saada Road with Qarn Al Sabkha Road soon,” said Maitha Bin Udai, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency.
Phase 2 of this project is expected to be ready by the end of March 2015 when Al Saada Road will be linked with Ibn Battuta Mall district.
She added that phase 2 will ensure completion of some bridges and roads in the neighbourhood which will mainly serve JLT, Gardens, Furjan, Jumeirah Islands, and Juemirah Park by linking them with Shaikh Zayed Road and Shaikh Mohammad bin Zayed Road.
The project is part of the parallel roads system that aims at upgrading networks of roads, bridges, crossings and underpasses to ease traffic movement and mobility across the emirate.
