Sharjah: Zulekha Hospital has launched a new 24-hour Paediatric Emergency Department in its Sharjah hospital to treat paediatric medical emergencies. The Paediatric Emergency Department provides specialised care for childbirth and newborns, and includes a 19-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a 3-bed Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), paediatric surgery, paediatric cardiology and paediatric physiotherapy.
“We launched the Paediatric Emergency Department to ease babies with critical cases. With special areas within the unit dedicated to paediatrics, fast track cases, resuscitation and general treatment, our team offers timely medical attention to emergency cases,” said Zanubia Shams, Co-Chairperson of Zulekha Healthcare Group.
She said the hospital has dedicated paediatric doctors on duty in the Emergency Department on a round-the-clock service basis to ensure that patients have the best possible care available to them.
The paediatric emergency services include, rapid sequence intubation, airway management and mechanical ventilation, defibrillation, paediatric advanced life support, neonatal resuscitation, neonatology and paediatric services, haemodynamic monitoring, intravenous therapy, laboratory and radiology diagnostics and minor procedures.
The newly opened department has adopted the Triage System in which patients are assessed according to the urgency of their case which ensures that those in a serious condition receive priority care.
