Dubai: A campaign for diabetes and high blood pressure prevention during Ramadan was announced yesterday at Shaikh Khalifa Hospital, Ajman.

The campaign will tour various Red Crescent Ramadan iftar tents across the UAE, to measure sugar levels, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) before breaking the fast, to ensure healthy and safe fasting.

While the campaign is open to everyone, it focuses on labourers as they are a vulnerable group in the community. The initiative is organised by the Emirates Nursing Association in collaboration with the Emirates Foundation for Youth Development, the UAE Red Crescent and Dubai Corporation Ambulance

In addition to the tests, educational health brochures and leaflets will be distributed in various languages including, Arabic, English, Urdu and Hindi. Advice and guidance from experienced professionals will also be provided according to the test results.

The campaign will be in Dubai and Sharjah on July 27-28, in Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah on August 3-4 and in Abu Dhabi and Fujairah on August 9-10.

On July 27 the campaign will be in Al Aweer, Dubai and Al Tarfa, Sharjah. On July 28 it will be in Al Rashidiya, Dubai and Al Nasseriya,Sharjah.

As for Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah, August 3 will see the campaign in Al Bustan, Ajman and The Ship Roundabout, Ras Al Khaimah and August 4 will see it near “Aswaq Al Emarat” in Ajman and the ship roundabout in Ras Al Khaimah.

Lastly, the campaign in Abu Dhabi and Fujairah will be in Al Falah, Abu Dhabi and Fujairah Corniche on August 10 and in Adma, Abu Dhabi and Fujairah Corniche on August 11.
