Sharjah: Sharjah’s Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) has completed a solar-powered lighting project in Khor Fakkan.
The project saw installation of 100 lampposts in Al Yarmouk area. Dr Engineer Rashid Al Leem, Chairman of Sewa, said that the authority strives to take all necessary measures to keep abreast with global developments in the environmental fields.
Sewa has previously implemented solar-powered lighting projects in different areas of Sharjah. The projects achieved economically feasible results in terms of energy saved and had a positive environmental impact. Al Leem pointed out that more than 1,200 solar-powered lampposts had been installed in the city of Sharjah.
He added that Sewa is keen on using eco-friendly and energy saving lamps in all parts of Sharjah, some of which rely on renewable energy. Al Leem said that this bolsters Sewa’s policy on activating the usage of renewable energy and achieving an ideal usage for resources as per the principles of preserving sources of energy.
Al Leem clarified that the project comes as part of Sewa’s framework to achieve its vision of ensuring sustainable development that complements its policies and strategic plans.
