Abu Dhabi: Etihad Aviation Group (EAG) has donated vital school and home supplies to more than 1,000 Syrian refugee children at the Ritsona refugee camp near Athens.
A delegation recently visited the camp to present the donation to the Emirates Red Crescent, according to a press release issued by EAG on Monday.
The delegation was headed by senior diplomats from the UAE embassy in Greece, as well as volunteers from the Etihad Abu Dhabi and Athens team, and Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) volunteers.
The event coincided with the United Nations Universal Children’s Day and supported the global education initiative to help underprivileged students pursue their studies. The donation included stationery sets, storybooks, garments, blankets, socks and activity packs.
Khalid Al Mehairbi, Senior Vice-President and General Manager, Etihad Airport Services Ground — Abu Dhabi Hub, and Chairman of the Etihad Sports and Social Committee, said: “We are pleased to continue our Year of Giving project work, focusing on Syrian-refugee children around the region, and provide them with these items which particularly assists them with their studies.
“The children have had to endure such tough times and so to be able to show our support will hopefully make a big difference. Our thanks go to all parties who supported this donation including Emirates Red Crescent, the UAE embassy in Greece and the local Etihad Airways team.”
Etihad Aviation Group made the donation through a series of fund-raisers and volunteer events in Abu Dhabi, including its sixth Annual Ramadan Charity Football Tournament.
