Dubai: "Not again" was the reaction of residents of The Gardens and Discovery Gardens near Jebel Ali on Saturday night as water flooded the main road behind Ibn Battuta Mall for the second time in a month.

A 1.2-metre diameter pipe cracked and burst on the night of July 18, releasing massive amounts of water in the area. The flooding submerged cars, fire due to a short circuit, and huge traffic jams.

On Saturday night, residents reported another flood in the same area on the roundabout on the main road behind Ibn Battuta Mall near the cinema’s entrance. A team from Dubai Municipality was spotted on Saturday night pumping the water out but the cause of the flooding is still unclear at the time of filing this report.

Venus, a Discovery Gardens resident, was on her way home with her family when they saw traffic build-up on the same road at about 10pm. Ankle-deep water caused traffic to move slow, she said.

“Traffic was already building up because of the water so we decided to go through another route. We were worried to get stuck in traffic just like the previous flooding,” the Filipina housewife told Gulf News.

Other residents took to Twitter their experience. User Ahmed ‏‪@ahmedzakut wrote:

‪"@nakheelnews when nakheel will care about the gardens & the discovery gardens..every time we have to drown on their streets & nobody cares.”

User Sunanda ‏‪@tweetsunands said: “Again drain water clogging in ‪#discoverygardens managed to get out but now getting [in] is a task! Why wouldn’t ‪#nakheel sort this once for all?”

By 1am, a Discover Gardens resident who was on her way home said the water had receded but tire tracks and water marks were still visible on the road.

Gulf News contacted Nakheel, the developer of both communities, but no one was immediately available for comment.
