Nursery coordinator Noora Kraish said, “We will be working on multiple initiatives with various institutions and authorities to reinforce, encourage and increase awareness of environmental responsibilities.”

Green steps

Affiliated to the National Association of Education of Young Children, a US-based body that accredits early childhood education programmes, Greenopia will provide children with an early green experience. It will implement the Eco Healthy Childcare Programme by Children’s Environmental Health Network based in the US.

Classes will revolve round themes inspired by nature. The themes will include winter rain, autumn leaves, sky clouds, spring flowers, summer sun and earth angels.

Every aspect of the nursery is eco-friendly, whether it is the organic paints used in the building or the biodegradable, non-toxic products used for cleaning.

The toys too are PVC-free while the art supplies are made in-house with material approved by the Art and Creative Materials Institute (US). All playground equipment and classroom furniture are from ‘Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification’ suppliers.

In order to reduce water consumption resulting from repeated mopping, the nursery has a “shoe-free” policy. Those inside the nursery are required to wear “anti-sliding socks” and use “auto shoe cover machines”.

Greenopia also hosts a recycle hub where paper, cardboard, glass, aluminum and plastic bottles will be recycled. The nursery is now open for admission for classes starting September 10.

Parents can request for orientation tours.
