Dubai: Dubai Police have introduced a new device to catch motorists red-handed, who put other road users life in danger by jumping the queue in tailbacks, driving on the hard shoulder or driving recklessly.
The new smart device to catch offenders on roads is being installed as addition to existing radars and cameras to reduce serious traffic offences on the roads.
Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Commander-in-Chief at Dubai Police, said the new device called ‘Smart Controller’, will monitor the external roads in the emirate and has nine more advanced specifications than conventional radars.
“It is a system that includes the latest technology to help officers control and monitor serious traffic offences by reckless drivers. It will help enhance Dubai Police’s strategy to make the emirate as safe as possible,” Major General Al Merri said.
The new device is part of the smart technology being introduced by Dubai Police.
“This device will crack down on reckless drivers to protect the lives of road users,” he added.
Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of Traffic Department in Dubai Police, said the new device is more advanced than existing devices and radars as it has high-resolution imagery and accuracy.
“It can be fixed on a fence and can move automatically for some distance and has advanced cameras that can read plate numbers and catch motorists involved in speeding using hard shoulders. It will be controlled by our officers via an application on their smart phone,” Brig Al Mazroui said.
Dubai Police have collaborated with a Chinese technology company specialised in traffic safety to build the new device.

— Live broadcast to command room
— Can broadcast audio messages to motorists
— Flashing light to warn drivers about emergencies and bad weather
